What's Uncommon Teal?

Uncommon Teal is a marketing consulting and coaching business run by Shayla Thiel-Stern β€” that's me.  Here's my deal:

* I'm a Minneapolis-based digital marketing pro with special expertise in content and social media. I work with agency, media, corporate and nonprofit marketing teams across a variety of industries.

* I love to help clients engage with their target audiences in a way that is authentic to them and works with the budget and resources that they have. I'm especially helpful with content strategy and development.

*I also offer expertise in building thought leadership through social media and other digital channels. I'll coach you or your executives in one-on-one or group sessions, and I'll also help you create and edit content (including newsletters, videos, podcasts, social content or blogs).
‍
* I am a teaching professor at the University of Minnesota where I teach courses in strategic communications.

* I publish a newsletter filled with great advice on marketing, careers and life: 😎 Subscribe for free here.

* I've written articles for a range of publications, including The Washington Post and Chicago Tribune. I also published two books about adolescents, gender and social media (available here and here).

* I enjoy speaking about my experiences, advice and research. Get in touch if you're looking for someone to give a talk that is authentic, funny and filled with takeaways for your audience.

Video content strategy and development

Do you need help strategizing video content or getting a video or series created?  Uncommon Teal can help, from ideation to script writing to production oversight.

‍
Using data insights gleaned from customer personas, I worked with 3VLTS agency in Minneapolis to  create an introductory video to help people better understand what to do as they started our Specialty Care program. This video was a key piece in the onboarding for new members, and it was also used in our app.

This campaign to raise awareness for ServeMinnesota's AmeriCorps program, Reading Corps, featured a multi-program strategy that included original video, social media and media relations, culminating in a school of children throwing slime at the mayor of Minneapolis.
